SA Live Marine Copepods – Tigriopus californicus
SA’s Tiger Pods:
These large red copepods exhibit a “jerky” swimming motion that elicits a healthy feeding response in many finicky fishes. Naturally found in tidepools on the US Pacific Coast, Tiger Pods reproduce quickly and can tolerate wide ranges in temperature, oxygen, and salinity, making them robust in culture and able to withstand refrigeration for storage.
SA’s Advantage:
SA’s Tigriopus californicus copepods are maintained in clean, single-species cultures. They are fed a high-quality and varied diet of SA’s Phytoplankton and SA Hatchery Diet, ensuring that you are getting the best copepods available!
Use:
SA’s Tiger Pods can be added into a refugium, where a population can be maintained to feed the reef aquarium. They can be used directly to feed fishes, especially picky eaters such as seahorses, pipefish, and mandarin dragonets. SA’s Tiger Pods can also be cultured for use in fish breeding, as they are at the SA Hatchery.
Feeding:
For direct feeding, SA’s Tiger Pods can be added directly into the aquarium, where they will quickly be consumed by fish. They can also be added to a refugium, where a population can establish and reproduce to supply the reef with a continuous supply of nutritious copepods.
Culture and Storage:
SA’s Tiger Pods can be cultured in a simple bucket or aquarium with an airstone and clean saltwater.
Feed with small amounts of SA Hatchery Diet several times weekly and change water weekly. Copepods can be stored in the refrigerator to slow their metabolism and extend their shelf-life.
