Lubbock’s Fairy Wrasse

The Lubbock’s Fairy Wrasse, or Tricolor Fairy Wrasse, Cirrhilabrus lubbocki is a peaceful, colorful, and active fish perfect for nearly any type of tank.  They are reef safe, hardy, and accept a variety of meaty foods.  Multiple fish can be added to a tank, provided they have plenty of space and rockwork to swim in.  At only three inches in length, they are one of the smaller wrasses available, but it is suggested a tank of at least 30 gallons is used.  This wrasse is known as a jumper, so it is advised to have a tight-fitting lid.

Physical Description– Though several color variations appear depending on location, most male wrasses have a red body, yellow fins, with hints of blue, brown and white throughout their body. Males tend to be more colorful than females, and even moreso when in the presence of a female wrasse.

Temperament– The Lubbock’s Fairy Wrasse is very peaceful towards other tankmates, making it an excellent addition to most tanks. It can be timid amongst other aggressive fish and has been known to be aggressive towards other fish of the same species.

Size– This wrasse grows to about three inches in length.

Diet– These wrasses are carnivorous and require a diet of varied meaty foods. Suggestions include frozen mysis and brine shrimp, as well as enriched flake or pelleted foods like our Hatchery Diet.

Distribution– These fish are primarily found in the Philippines and Indonesia, though they appear throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Our Lubbock’s Fairy Wrasses arrive from Bali.
