Chromis retrofasciata
An active, hardy, and interesting addition to any tank, the Black Bar Chromis (Chromis retrofasciata) is ideal for the beginning hobbyist, as well as the advanced aquarist. Best kept in groups, these fish will actively dart in and out of live rock searching for food and new hiding spaces. Though territorial, they are generally peaceful, as well as reef safe.
Physical Description– The Black Bar Chromis has a yellow/cream body with a vertical black bar where the body meets the tail. A neon blue ring surrounds their eyes, as well as along the edge of their fins.
Temperament– This fish is generally peaceful toward other tankmates but can be aggressive toward smaller fish and shy fish, as well as other Chromis. It is best to add these fish after others have established their “territory”.
Size– The Black Bar Chromis grows to a length of 2 inches.
Diet– A varied diet of frozen meaty preparations and macroalgae will keep the Black Bar Chromis, an omnivore, happy and healthy. Suggestions include enriched frozen mysis and brine shrimp, algae sheets, and pelleted foods such as our own SA Hatchery Diet.
Distribution– These Chromis are found throughout the Western Pacific. Ours typically arrive from Bali.
